Ministry Partners

In 2015, the last full year that New Hope Family Church had Sunday services, our church expenses were $26,804.30. In July of 2016, we passed our last offering plate and we have had no income since that time. We do not take an offering at the assisted living home where we have our Wednesday and Sunday service. They typically have no money and there is nothing for them to buy. They do not leave the facility and all their meals are provided. For most, a family member has a power of attorney over their finances and that’s how any bills they might have will get paid. One time a man tried to give us a dollar. He said it was all the money he had. We didn’t take it but it touched our heart and reminded us of what Jesus said about the “widow’s mites.” He said that while others had given out of their abundance, the widow gave out of her poverty all that she had.  Mark 12:41-44

The largest expenses ended with our last Sunday service. In 2015, our rent was $8,400 and we no longer have expenses like that and have cut our budget to the bone. But because we no longer take an offering, we are no longer able to give benevolence money to those in extreme need. We used to buy cards, flowers and books for people and can no longer afford to do that. When we had income, I would be repaid for any personal expenses I made for the church and I am no longer reimbursed. But if someone needs a Bible at the assisted living home or asks for a cross to put up on the wall of their room, I am happy to pay for the cost of that. Ministry must take precedence over money! Most of you know that in the nine years I have been the pastor of New Hope Family Church, I have never been compensated for my pastoral service. Since 2008, I have gladly put in over 14,000 hours serving this church and that has always been, and always will be, my gift to the church for the glory of God.

We have done the best we can to eliminate expenses, but we still do have some. We are still a fully-functioning church of thirty to forty people! Some expenses, like the necessary liability insurance, have stayed the same and some like the office supplies have actually increased. We now use colorful bulletin shells and print multi-page service bulletins with song lyrics, psalms, prayers and sermon scriptures every week that are often kept by the people and used for their devotional times during the week. That’s why we use so much more paper and ink than we did before.

If you are able to financially help this ministry, please pray about it and see if God is calling you to do so. Whether a yearly gift or a monthly commitment, your support would be most appreciated. A woman named Janice said to me, “I feel so much better after I come to the service. The music brings me to God.” We believe that God has called us to bring Janice and the dozens like her closer to God in this season of their lives and we trust in Him that He will provide the finances for us to continue to do so.
